Benefits of AAC Communication Devices

An AAC is the acronym used to define an "augmentative alternative communication” device that is a form to supplement communication. However, an AAC can also be through a PECS (picture exchange communication) system, use of gestures or even writing information on paper.

You may be asking yourself, why would someone need one of these in the first place? If a person has an impairment in their communication or speech due to a stroke, traumatic brain injury, ALS, or possibly autism, then an AAC might be a helpful medium to aid in functional communication. There are different companies that offer a variety of AAC devices with funding opportunities available.

The following are some of my personal favorite resources, and as always, my inbox is always open for any questions you may have!
